The death toll from yesterday’s heavy rainfall in Karachi rose to eight on Wednesday, as residents continued to struggle with flooded roads. Meanwhile, Sindh braced for more downpours in the coming days.

Moreover, the rains severely strained Karachi’s fragile infrastructure. Stormwater drains and sewers burst, while industrial operations faced serious disruption. As a result, several areas experienced long power cuts and internet outages. Therefore, the provincial administration declared a public holiday in the city today.
According to Karachi Rescue 1122, two more people died in rain-related incidents, in addition to yesterday’s six deaths.
For instance, Edhi Marine Service volunteers recovered the body of a 50-year-old man, Abbas Mohsin, from a nullah near Gurumandir. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Similarly, in DHA Phase 5, volunteers recovered the body of 19-year-old Yasir after an electrocution incident. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College (JPMC).
In addition, a man and a woman sustained injuries after part of an old building collapsed in Ranchore Line. Subsequently, rescuers shifted both victims to CHK in an ambulance.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government ordered all private and public educational institutions to remain closed today. Furthermore, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab declared a rain emergency.
In a post on X, Wahab warned: “It is expected to rain again from 2 pm onwards. I would request people to avoid movement. If it starts raining, please stay where you are, whether at your office or residence.”
